A friend of mine has a friend who worked at a car detailing place in Houston. He toweled off vehicles as they came out of the wash, vacuumed their insides, made it smell nice. Beverley brought his car down one day. Apparently, when my friend’s friend was cleaning, in the floorboard of the vehicle, he saw a CD silver side up. He reached down, grabbed it, turned it over. It was the soundtrack for The Nutty Professor.
When you search “Patrick Beverley” on YouTube the third video that pops up, after two highlighting his defense, is one with him playing one on one at a park against a young girl named Adriana. They look to be in Houston, a small crowd having gathered around the sidelines, at least a couple dudes watching in Rockets jerseys. Everybody has their phone out. Adriana has a cheering section. They don’t stop pulling for her. There’s a skate park in the distance. When the angle on the camera is right you can see people down there in mid air.
The title of the video is: Hilarious Patrick Beverley 1 on 1 with Kid Showing NO MERCY. Beverley torches her while wearing a shirt that has a silhouette of his hair and goatee on the front. In the middle, where the rest of his face would be, are words and numbers. They descend, reading like this:
MR.
94
FEET
After he wins he tells her to get her ass off his court.
Beverley would hoop in socks and slides. I often wonder what he thinks of James Harden, what he thought of Dwight Howard. He probably wants to set them both on fire. His mom has a nail salon in Houston. He helped her open it.
