I occasionally wonder, when his name gets brought up, if Rajon Rondo even likes basketball anymore. One of my favorite league moments of the last ten years is him guarding LeBron in the 2011 playoffs. He used to stretch every nerve. Now he seems joyless.
Two seasons ago the Mavericks essentially booted him from the team after trading for him midseason. He couldn’t get along with anybody. Last year he unleashed a verbal assault of gay slurs on official Bill Kennedy. His apology a few days later was sort of the pits. This year Sam Smith’s telling everybody he’s buying steaks for the entire Bulls organization, trying to get them to bond. Apparently he’s trying to mentor younger players, taking buses to Milwaukee for exhibitions to watch the bench play in a game the vets had off. I don’t know what to think. I can’t root for him, but Pequod’s is good. Maybe Chicago gives him life.
